Welcome to the Greener Good

I’m Brett (she/her), a journalist and photographer from Toronto, Ontario. I have a background in the environmental sector, and I’m a nature girl through and through. When I’m not writing or spending time with my family, I’m out photographing flowers, birds, and other critters.

I’ve been freelancing since 2017, writing about sustainability and conservation for a number of Canadian publications. Although this career has been rewarding, I have more story ideas than magazines have budgets for — and with the direction media is going in, freelance work is more precarious than ever before. So I decided to take matters into my own hands.

What is the Greener Good?

I believe that people are inherently good — and I know there is good work being done all the time, around the world, to help people and the planet. But that’s rarely what we hear about in the news or social media. We are fed doom and gloom, and that leaves many people feeling depressed, powerless, and apathetic.

I want to change that.

My vision for the Greener Good is to celebrate and inspire positive action for the planet. I curate environmental good news stories from around the world, and write feature stories on people and projects that are making a difference. And I encourage readers to be part of the change by sharing ideas and tips for living sustainably.

“If you’d like some positivity without out the Pollyanna, absolute beauty found in the everyday, and practical ways to live a lower-impact life minus the guilt trip - then Brett’s Substack is a must-read. The pictures alone have me coming back again and again.”

The Greener Good is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
